There’s no doubt that we live in a time-obsessed world where “slowing down to smell the roses” is, to many people, nothing but an old saying…

People are so used to being busy that when they decide to take some time off to relax, they feel guilty for no reason. 

But here’s the thing: it’s all about the quality of the time you spend, not the quantity. 

So if you’ve been struggling to find a balance between relaxing and working hard, then in today’s blog post I’d like to share with you my 5 easy steps to recharge your mind, body and spirit… without feeling guilty.

Step 1. Know the difference between relaxing and procrastinating.

Be honest… 

Do you want to relax because you’re tired or because you’re trying to escape from something you need to get done?

The truth is, when we lack motivation, we sometimes tend to run away from our problems and obligations, and choose to simply not do anything about them at all. This is called procrastination. 

Relaxation, on the other hand, is when we allow our mind, body and spirit to unwind by letting any tension melt away, so that we can recharge with new and invigorating energy.

Step 2. Trust in your choice to relax.

When you trust in your choice to relax, you can truly experience the pleasure of letting go and allowing your mind and body to release any tension and thoughts that don’t serve you. 

It also allows you to make room for new and better ideas, to be creative and to acknowledge your feelings.  

Step 3. Breathe.

Just by taking deep breaths and allowing all of your organs to be filled with more oxygen, you’ll be replenishing your whole body with fresh energy in an instant!

As you can see, sometimes relaxing only takes a couple of minutes; the key is to do it right :)

Step 4. Practice activities that make you feel good. 

Instead of watching TV, try reading a book, going for a walk in nature, spending time with your friends, or practicing your favorite hobby. 

There’s nothing wrong with simply enjoying your favorite TV show from time to time, but by mixing it up with other activities, you’ll be infusing some excitement into your life. 

5. Know when to say NO.

Knowing your own limitations is extremely important so you can better manage your time and not take on more than you can handle. 

Paulo Coelho was right when he said: “When you say ‘YES’ to others, make sure you are not saying ‘NO’ to yourself.”
