Society’s perception of hypnosis has come a long way since its old Hollywood portrayal of mustachioed men in top hats, seizing minds with the swing of a pocket watch.
Even so, few people realize just how powerful a tool hypnosis really is - or how to harness it to spark profound changes in one’s emotions, thoughts and habits.
In fact, did you know that when used correctly, hypnosis:
~ Has a 90.6% success rate in smoking cessation…
~ Consistently doubles the effectiveness of traditional weight loss methods…
~ Elevates self-image while lowering stress, anger and fear…
~ Can dramatically reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines…
~ And can even help the human body heal and repair itself from sickness and injury?
One of the most accessible and affordable ways to start enjoying the benefits of hypnosis is to practice self-hypnosis:
Which simply means entering a deeper state of mind with a specific objective in mind.
Performing self-hypnosis is simpler than you might think - no special skills, pocket watches or funny mustaches are necessary :)
In fact, all you need to do is follow these 5 easy steps!
TIME REQUIRED: Approx. 20 minutes
STEP 1: GET CLEAR ON YOUR GOAL
Are you trying to overcome a limiting belief? A bad habit, like smoking or emotional eating? Or maybe you’re trying to heal from a specific illness? Hypnosis works best when each session focuses on just ONE primary goal - so get clear on that first.
STEP 2: GET COMFORTABLE
Slip into your most comfortable clothes, then move to a quiet room, away from loud offspring, spouses, pets or electronic gadgets. You may choose to sit or lie down, but if you fall asleep easily, you may want to remain in a seated position. Be sure not to cross your legs or sit on any parts of your body, as this may become distracting.
STEP 3: ENTER A DEEPER STATE OF MIND
First, focus your gaze on a corner of the wall in front of you. Feel your eyelids get heavy, and begin slowly closing them. Next, focus on your breathing, and ‘breathe out’ any feelings of negativity or stress from your mind and body.
Count down from five to zero, visualizing yourself going deeper into relaxation. Just like meditation, don’t fight the distracting thoughts that will inevitably enter your mind - just let them pass naturally.
STEP 4: BEGIN REPROGRAMMING YOUR MIND
There are two primary hypnosis tools you can use once you’re in a deeper state of mind:
1. Visualization: Visualize vivid scenarios of you having already accomplished your goal. For instance, if you want to be more self-confident, visualize yourself speaking on stage to thunderous applause. Focus on the emotions of the imagery you are creating with your mind; this will amplify your experience and your results.
2. Affirmations: Recite positive statements as if you have already achieved your goal, like: “I’m in the best health and physical shape of my life!” or, “I no longer smoke cigarettes, and I am happier without them.” Feel free to write these down beforehand, if you prefer.
Continue your visualizations and affirmations for a number of minutes, and don’t worry about distractions or difficulty in visualizing certain scenarios - just allow your mind to go with the flow as you feed it these suggestions.
STEP 5: DE-HYPNOTIZE YOURSELF
Start counting from one to five, visualizing yourself getting more alert with each count. Slowly open your eyes at the count of five, wiggle your fingers and toes, and roll your shoulders. Take a deep breath, and don’t be concerned if you feel a little drowsy - you’ll be back to normal in a minute or two ;)
Tip: For best results, try hypnotizing yourself a few days a week. With practice, you’ll notice yourself floating into deeper and deeper relaxation, yielding a smoother, more fruitful experience with every session.
