How To Break Out Of A Rut & Feel Inspired

How To Break Out Of A Rut & Feel Inspired

When inspiration strikes, it's magical. You wake up feeling ready to take on the world with brand new ideas and even the kind of motivation that feels like it will last forever.

And for inspiration to happen, you need to be open to it. But this isn't always possible if you feel like you're stuck in a rut or just mindlessly going through the motions in your day-to-day life.

Maybe your routine is starting to feel boring where nothing seems to change or you tend to go through the entire day on autopilot. Unfortunately, this means that inspiration doesn't have a chance to find you.

And when inspiration is lacking in your life, you may also start to notice your mood changing and becoming more negative or critical. You may find yourself being frustrated by the most minor things or even seeing no motivation to do what brings you joy or spend time with those you love.

If this is the case, the first thing I would recommend doing is to sit down and take note of your day-to-day life. Ask yourself:

What are you doing?
What are your thoughts when inspiration is lacking?
Are you feeling bored by what you're doing or not finding it fun anymore?

Pensive Man Looking Out Into The Sunset

Once you get clear on these questions, you just may find some common symptoms of inspiration lacking in your life. So you must understand why inspiration isn't around right now.

And the inspiration I'm talking about isn't always some crazy burst of joy where you feel all gooey inside for no apparent reason. Inspiration is something very practical and can be defined in many different ways.

So once you've gotten clear on the source of your lack of inspiration, here are some ways to break out of a rut to then help you find your inspiration again!

Keep it simple

Sometimes inspiration can be lost due to distractions or by making your life more complicated than it needs to be, forcing it to take a backseat in our lives. But by getting back to the basics and keeping things simple, inspiration can have a much easier time finding its way to you.

This can be in the form of things like:

- Clearing out clutter or cleaning out your closet
- Donating old clothes or shoes that you no longer wear
- Clearing your schedule
- Taking a day off to do nothing

When inspiration hits you, it often hits you out of nowhere, meaning it's something that can't always be chased. But by keeping things simple, you are giving yourself the breathing room you need to be open to receiving it when it arrives!

Consider other sources

Inspiration comes in many different forms and not all inspiration is created equal. But by exploring other forms of inspiration, you can gain a better understanding and appreciation of the world around you and, in turn, find inspiration along the way.

And often, the best place to start is in places and things that you may have previously considered meaningless. That could be:

- Visiting a local museum or art gallery
- Watching one of your favorite movies or old TV shows
- Reading a book that you purchased but never got around to even opening

Get outdoor inspiration

Inspiration is something we all have inside ourselves, and it isn't just a state of mind! So doing something as simple as having a walk around your local park or going for a hike in a nearby forest will often help to inspire you. By getting outside, we're helping to expand our minds to see inspiration from a new perspective. This is also a great time to practice grounding and connect with the earth, which can have numerous healing and stress-reducing benefits.

Seek inspiration from different angles

Inspiration doesn't just come in one form. Inspiration can be found in the simplest, most mundane things like:

- A random conversation with someone in line at the grocery store
- Taking a different route to work
- Getting advice from a coworker you don't normally interact with
- Waking up an hour earlier than normal

By seeing inspiration from a different angle, inspiration can then be found in everyday life, making it that much more interesting and exciting when it happens. This allows you to appreciate even the mundane or uninspiring situations as brand new sources of inspiration for yourself.

Use your senses as a guide

Inspiration doesn't always come when you want it and may not come in the form you hoped. That's why using your senses can help reinvigorate the inspiration you're looking for.

You can do things like:

- Listen to music: Lots of times, people can find inspiration in song lyrics, and listening to music while doing something creative can also help spark new ideas.

- Read about and study inspiration: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, for example, is a book that never fails to inspire. Many of those who've read it multiple times find new inspiration each time they read it.

- Cook a healthy meal: The art of cooking alone is a creative practice that provides you with nourishment for your body. Whether it's mastering a new recipe or cleaning up your skills, making food is simply good for the soul.

- Travel inspiration: There's just something about being somewhere new that sparks inspiration. And you don't have to wait on a big trip to experience this. Simply going on a road trip or taking a tour of your own city can allow you to see things from a brand new perspective, inspiring creativity in the process.

If inspiration is lacking in your life, don't worry, it doesn't mean inspiration isn't within reach. You see, periods of feeling uninspired will happen, but becoming aware of the things you can do to combat it will help you go out into the world with a stronger mindset to take on whatever challenges are coming your way.

Remember, inspiration and motivation already exist within us – we just have to know how to embrace them. So when you start to feel like you're running on autopilot or going through the motions without any real passion for what you're doing, it's important to first acknowledge this pattern and then use techniques like the ones I've mentioned here to reinvigorate that inner fire.

You see, sometimes it can feel like inspiration is hard to come by. But inspiration doesn't have to be limited to things that are out of your control or big life-changing events. It can come from the most unexpected of places! So there's no need to always wait on things like big vacations or exciting events for happiness to find its way to you. You can do this by harnessing the inspiration that comes from everyday life.
