Episode # 126 6 Habits to A Long, Happy Life

Natalie : Today on the show, I share the 6 top habits of people who've made it to a hundred years old to living in longer and happier life. So enjoy.

Now as reading recently about a woman called Lois Donalf who was from Denver and she was just turned a hundred years old. From what I read, Lois seems to be very feisty and opinionated person and people who know her say she doesn't give much weight to what other people think about her. Now despite what the doctor tell her about what she should be doing at her age, she actually leads in a vibrant and active and she participates in local tennis club once a week. So this get me to thinking, are there many big differences between people who lived to be a hundred and the rest of the population?

Now obviously there's no doubt that genetics plays a role on how long you live but new researches coming to light which seems to indicate that the way these people think may actually played a bigger role on their life expectancy that they dreams. Now researchers were surprised to find out that most centurions or hundred year olds are in surprisingly good mental and physical condition in fact, they are even happier and feel healthier than many here on their 50's and 60's.

Now the good news is, no matter what your age is if you start living right now you will live happier and healthier than you have before. In fact, researchers have learned that once you start living the centurion life style, the benefits that you receive just keep adding up and building on each other. Now the most surprising discovery of all was that the most of the differences between the centurions and the rest of the population were learned behaviors. Now this means that you can actually start living like a centurion now just by adopting some of these simple habits. So what can we learn from those people who've celebrated their 100th birthday? Well first, centurions complain less about their health. Now even they're many need to you lives and medical treatments to maintain their health, they tend to be very positive about their current status health and they down the bad stuff. So you know we should be confirming a sense of gratitude for any of the health that we have and the blessings that we have earlier, you know stay positive about your health is the best way for us to maintain it.

The second thing is the centurions never stop learning. Now researchers found out that this group were adverb learners and they enjoyed most of their interest in passions more than the younger counterparts. You know they love to get their you know learning fix and many enjoy reading or watching educational programming, and many centurions actually complete puzzles or brain teasers on a daily basis to help them keep mentally sharp. Now this actually makes me think of people like Martin Cooper, who invented the cellphone and Ron Klein who invented the magnetic strip, that magnetic strip that's on the back of your credit cards. Now both of these men are in their 80s and they're not showing any signs of slowing down or whatsoever. You know they are both still working because they want to and they're both still inventing new things everyday because their brain is still working.

And now the third thing, centurions are amazingly optimistic. They love life, they love everything about it despite the fact that maybe they have to deal with a lot of difficulties whether be aging, or some you know mass of things, obviously most centurions have to deal with their war in their life but still they're surprisingly happy. Now there are happy group of people, and they score much low in tests for anxiety and depression than the rest of the population. Now in addition to the positive outlook on life, they're also much more on accepting circumstances which they have no control over. So what's the lesson here? The lesson is don't sweat the small stuff. Now let go of the things that you cannot change and focus on pursuing what you can change and makes you happy, you know try take the satisfaction out of life's little pleasures and focus more on what you do want than to pose on what you wish is different. You know this reminds me of an interview that I saw with Strain Wovit and he just turned a hundred years old and when he was ask what was his secret in life, he said he's in, we're gonna by pick a strange accent for this, he said well he said when he had any worries just don't worry about them. You know it's very very simple statement but very prevailed, don't sweat the small stuff.

Okay number four, centurions are more satisfied with their financial situation. Now this doesn't mean that they're rich, it just means that they most satisfied for what they do have. Now they tend to be content as long as they have enough money to fulfill their basic needs. You know it's easy to get stressed about money, one thing to remember no matter what your situation is there are many things that you have to be grateful for. Nothing will ruin your sense of happiness about your finances faster that comparing your financial situation to other people, be grateful for the money that you do have this will raise your vibration and help you make space for more money to come to you.

Okay number five, centenarians live life to the fullest by cultivating the social relationships and protecting their independence. Now as a group, centenarians routinely participating social activities and they endeavor their rate their role in society. Now this gives them strong social relationships to lean on when they really need help and support. Now they tend to live in neighborhoods that give them pleasure, where they feel safe, and that perceives been they believe. Now they also relish their independence and refuse to give up control in their lives. You know for example, they live in places that have access you know to local facilities and services such as the public transportations, doctors, and that topic that thing. Now this gives them the freedom to participate in society by engaging in their hobbies and other social leisure activities. Now remember how important your friends and family are to your well-being, don't take people for granted, take an active role in society busier interest in others as well. Don't just let things happen, take control and whatever it takes to protect your independence, do that to maintain the sense of self.

Okay now number six, centenarians keep healthy habits. They eat less salt and sugar than the average person and as you probably expect they tend to be leaner throughout their lives. They move around or exercise regularly and they try to maintain a good level of mobility as well. You know they take good care of their teeth, and they make appointment to dentist regularly. So even like the basic health things that have covered, so that they can make sure they maintain a good level of health. So now you have it, by following the 6 habits outlined above, you can live a longer, happier, healthier life that defies all expectations just like Lois Donalf.
