In 2000, Zhena Muzyka was a 25-year-old single mom with no health insurance and just $6 in her bank account. With a degree in aromatherapy, a love of tea and some money collected from friends and family, Muzyka decided to launch her own tea company.
Fast forward 12 years later and her fair trade organic tea business, Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, has become a multimillion-dollar success story.
Muzyka told The Inspiration Show host Natalie Ledwell that she relied on her passion to bring in the bigger investors she needed to get her business off the ground. “I never had to sell a single tin of tea,†revealed Muzyka. “I brought passion to my business plan and ‘corporates’ jumped at the chance to be a part of it.â€
Muzyka, a passionate believer in the wide sweeping benefits of fair trade products, shared that she also strives to end the global issue of poverty for tea laborers. “The women who work in tea fields around the world support four to six children on average with a minuscule salary of $1.35 a day,†she said.
Muzyka advocates and raises money to ensure that women working in tealeaf production receive health care, maternity leave and childcare.
Muzyka is also the founder of the “A Woman’s Power†retreat in Ojai, California, taking place in November 2012. The three-day event teaches attendees how to define and shape their personal and business success into fuller and richer possibilities, while maintaining a life of health, balance and success.
