36 Personal Development Tips For A Happy Life

What does living a happy life look like to you?

Happy Looking Man

Does it include traveling the world? Or perhaps it’s starting your own business? Or maybe it’s simply having the time and freedom to do whatever it is that you want! You see, it can be easy to fall into autopilot mode, where everything about our day feels and looks the same. But instead of falling back into the habits of our past programming, it’s important we keep on top of our personal growth to make sure we are taking the right steps forward toward a life we’ve always dreamed about.

Whether you’re actively navigating a personal development journey or simply figuring out the ups and downs of life as you go, we can all always use a little inspiration to help us along the way. That’s why today, I’d like to share with you some personal development tips to positively shift your mindset and help amplify your overall happiness. These are the practical, easy, and fun ways to stay on top of your goals, boost your skills, and squash those pesky fears or doubts that may be lingering in your mind.

1. Start Now!

Putting things off until later is exactly what keeps us stuck, so there’s no better time than now to go after what it is that you really want. Whether it’s a passion project, a new business, or a health goal, the best time to start actively pursuing your personal development is N-O-W!

2. Be Your Own Competition

A little healthy competition proves to be quite beneficial in teaching us things like self-improvement and resilience. That’s why learning to use your own markers and milestones as a gauge for improvement is an incredible way to hold yourself accountable and move faster toward your goals.

3. Say No

As hard as it may feel in the moment, saying no is actually an act of mental strength. Be kind to yourself and ditch the excuses by standing your ground when it comes to passing on the things that do not serve you or your higher purpose.

4. Just Be You

The thing about personal development is that it’s personal… just like your standards. So being authentically you is the best way to keep on track in your personal development journey.

5. Keep A To-Do List

There’s really no better way to tackle your goal setting than to keep a to-do list. Having a written list, as opposed to mental notes, is a great visual reminder for keeping up with tasks.

6. Read

Daily reading is a great way to expand the mind with knowledge and open yourself up to new ideas and opportunities. Even if it’s simply reading an article online, you never know what kind of valuable information you can walk away with.

7. Cut Out A Bad Habit

Binging on television? Oversleeping? Consuming unhealthy beverages? Whatever pesky habit you know you want to quit, make the conscious decision to do away with it for good. Your future self will thank you for it!

8. Think Before You Judge

Just like you walk a unique path on your personal development journey, so do others. Remember this when it may feel instinctual to judge or place blame on someone else. Judgment is a low-frequency emotion that can keep us stuck.

9. Release The Past

There’s nothing quite like a big sigh of relief when you release the tension from holding on to past events or experiences. Letting go of the shackles of the past is exactly how we are able to move forward towards our greatest selves.

10. Ask For Feedback

Even if it’s negative, asking for constructive feedback is an excellent (and brave) way to learn the kinds of things about yourself you may have never noticed. It’s an opportunity, and perhaps a wake-up call, for self-reflection and growth.

11. Check-In On A Friend

Although a personal development journey is an individual mission, it’s the relationships we have that help us nurture a happy life. So be sure to take some time to check in on those you care about.

12. Be Intentional

Intention is a powerful way to activate our goals, and the more intentional you are in your everyday life, the closer you get to achieving those goals. So be sure to take each step with intention.

13. Set Your Personal Boundaries

Setting boundaries is how you show yourself love and kindness. Whether it’s finding that work-life balance or learning to say no, even when it feels uncomfortable, this is how you stay in control of your own happiness.

14. Think Before You Complain

Personal growth and development are all about mindset, so think before you complain, especially about the things beyond your control. Learn to lead from a place of kindness and compassion before falling into a negatively charged frequency. You’ll be much happier in the long run.

15. Dream Big

When we dream, this is when we really start to feel alive! So don’t be afraid to dream and dream BIG! This is exactly how we condition the mind to stay on track and get excited about the kind of life we really want.

16. Move Your Body

Commit to moving your body or getting moderate exercise every single day. Something is always better than nothing when it comes to fitness, so keep your body happy and start moving! :-)

17. Learn To Adapt

Part of maintaining a positive mindset is being open to change and learning to adapt. Of course, life happens, and we can’t predict what the future holds, but the willingness to embrace change is what can help keep you in flow and headed in the right direction toward new (and better!) opportunities.

18. Forgive

Holding on to resentment or even anger toward others does not keep us on the path toward a happy life when it comes to personal development. When you can learn to forgive, you are actually permitting yourself to move forward in life.

19. Create A Healthy Morning Ritual

One of the best ways to set yourself and your day up for success is to practice a healthy morning ritual. Even if it’s just a few minutes each morning, carve out the time you need to get your mind and body aligned for optimal wellness overall.

20. Embrace Visualization

When you visualize the kind of happy life you want to lead, it helps your brain learn to embrace it as reality. I like to think of it as a secret mind hack! :-)

21. Create A Mind Movie or Vision Board

A Mind Movie or vision board can be filled with positive affirmations and inspiring images that condition the mind toward peak manifesting mode. Watching your Mind Movie or referencing your vision board daily is a great way to keep you headed towards the life you want to manifest.

22. Be Up For The Challenge

Sometimes we associate the word challenge with something hard or tiring. But when you shift your mindset to be open to a challenge, you start to embrace the joy of trying and achieving new things!

23. Be Accountable

As you find yourself on your personal development journey, you will see that you and only you are responsible for the progress you make and the milestones you hit. So learn to be accountable and take responsibility for the good, the bad, and everything in between.

24. Write Down Your Goals

Taking the time to write out your goals is a great way to provide your mind with the opportunity to clearly see them as achievable actions. Sometimes ideas will pop in and out of our heads, so getting them down on paper is how we make sure to not lose track of them over time.

25. Fail

When we fail, it means that we’re taking action. So don’t be afraid to embrace failure because it’s exactly how we’re able to pivot forward toward more wins.

26. Celebrate Small Wins

A win is still a win, no matter how small. So don’t be afraid to smile when you’ve achieved even the littlest task… because it matters.

27. Be In The Moment

There’s nothing wrong with planning for the future – actually, I encourage it! But mindfulness and being present are how we really squeeze the juice out of life! So pay attention to the beauty and happiness that surrounds you in the moment.

28. Resist The Urge To Spend Impulsively

Remember, life happens, and you never know when you may need a little extra money saved for a rainy day. Impulse spending can add up and is what can, unfortunately, derail us from our goals. So the next time you get that impulse, think about your long-term goals and resist the urge to spend when it’s not totally necessary.

29. Give Back

Whether it’s a random act of kindness or helping a friend in need, giving back can instantly boost your happy meter and make others feel happier too. One simple act of kindness from everyone can help to raise the collective consciousness for more happiness all around.

30. Eat A Healthy Meal

The body and mind are much more connected than you may realize, so keep them both happy by enjoying healthy meals regularly.

31. Listen

By giving others the opportunity to speak and let their guard down, listening is one of the most amazing ways to show others that you genuinely hear them and can be trusted with sometimes sensitive information. Active listening is how we positively connect with those around us.

32. Take A Break From Social Media

If you catch yourself aimlessly scrolling through social feeds, it’s time to take a break. Be mindful of how much time spent on social media can make you feel. If you find yourself lingering in low-frequency emotions because of it, take that time to instead work on something that brings you closer to your personal development goals.

33. Spend Time By Yourself

Spending time alone is actually a very healthy practice that helps keep you in touch with your innermost self. It’s a great time to unwind and embrace everything that brings you personal joy, so give it a try!

34. Learn Something New

Learn something new and never stop! Everything from reading books, listening to podcasts, taking courses, or even learning from a mentor or friend, the opportunity to learn is endless! This is what fills our hearts and our minds with wisdom!

35. Treat Yourself

The hard work you are putting toward your personal development and happiness should not go unnoticed. So treat yourself because you deserve it!

36. Keep Going

When you commit to a personal development journey, you must understand that this is a lifelong commitment. So keep going because you’ll find yourself unlocking a happier, healthier version of yourself each step of the way!
