My Life Is A Rubik's Cube: Part 6

On this week’s blog, we share part 6 in a series of guest posts from published author Michael Fletcher. Enjoy :-)

Does “No” Really Mean No?

I have spent a lot of time talking about how great everything in our lives can be if we simply open ourselves to the Universe and to the possibilities.

But what if the answer just seems to be “NO”!?

I know that sometimes we reach a point in our lives where there is a dream or goal that seems unattainable. Maybe there is a level of achievement that somehow seems out of reach. We all have childhood fantasies that we outgrew because they were simply unrealistic. We may not ever get to be the astronaut we once dreamed of, or the race car driver, or the model or whatever. Were they unrealistic goals or just a goal where we were not able to get the proper training to be properly qualified? Did you ever wonder how many famous singers were just in the right place at the right time? That could have been me! Well, maybe not. Or how many great singers remain forever unknown?

The best definition of “luck” I ever heard was when preparation meets opportunity.

Could I have been racing cars alongside Danica Patrick? Maybe – if I had started driving go-carts at a young age and the racing bug had bitten me. But of course, the Universe had a different plan for me. I was more interested in music at that time.

And yes it gets me down sometimes. There are some really important goals and dreams I have that I am still working on. I settled for watching Danica at the Indy 500 this year. I have to let that particular dream of driving a race car go on by me, I suppose. But as I let that go, I move forward knowing that the Universe still has a hand in my dreams. What awaits us from the Universe is a fantastic prize, and we have a role in determining the result.

Preparation and opportunity are all over this!

Now as we get centered and focus on whatever it is we want to manifest, we can achieve the result we want. Being real - I am a bit old to begin my racing career, but what other passions might I have that are not age or time-based? Plenty!

I guess this just means that we are forced to sit down and take a good look at ourselves. In the words of Reinhold Niebuhr, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

In that short phrase, we can decide how we will go forward. We can decide what will be our focus and what we will meditate about. I can meditate all day, every day about becoming a famous race car driver. But I also realize that I might not always know the difference between what I am capable of bringing to my life and what I cannot. We do not always know what we don’t know, so I will try to solve this by giving it my full attention and get in synch with the Universe. Then I can allow the plan to unfold for me. Is that a limitation I just put on myself or was that an awakening? I did reduce some noise in my life and made a straighter path. Maybe I solved a little facet of my own Rubik’s Cube in the process. (I always leave room for a Wild Card on my cube just in case I get that call for a chance to drive that race car.)

I think that may just describe what it means to get out of whatever box you are in. You can get boxed in by your limitations, while lying just beyond the door is your pot of gold.  Are we open to that?

“Do not waste the precious moments of this, your present reality, seeking to unveil all of life's secrets. Those secrets are a secret for a reason… Decide who you are - who you want to be - and then do everything in your power to be that.”
Neale Donald Walsch

Does the Universe really say “NO” to us? I don’t think so. I think we are gently (sometimes not so gently) steered by our talents and dreams and goals to achieve success.  We sometimes fail to recognize it, or may even shy away from it. But when we embrace it – it is awesome! And often the unanswered prayer turns out to be awesome too! Embrace that as well.

You’ve got this. Just remember to think big and get out of the box. Smile back at this big ol’ Rubik’s Cube life and solve it.

Your perspective is everything.
